It seems to be only a var. of E. glomeratum
130a + c.d. below may be distinct
This is Dublin's Kryptophyta leiocephala, though the calyx is not constantly deciduous.
E. muriculatum, Torr. (var. of Dec.) 1st. q.v., with the calyx expanded to 12 mm., is apparently in very respect
the same as this except that the anthers are conspicuously granulated with coarse scattered tubercles. The
fruit of the present specimen, shown under the microscope, is a very densely granulated
anther.
Make two numbers for large + small calyxed forms. These are
merely first attempts in Herb. 202.
Everything in Herb. 202, is just into E. floridum. From 2 + 3'5 sp., 622 mm., — makes, with 424 from tributary of Columbia, 314 Miles, Davis (Col.) — E. diphyllum var. longifolium, Hookf. — an authentic specimen from
Hartford has very thick fruit showing tendency to granulation, like my own 'tuber.' It is
slightly broader than E. diphyllum but can hardly be considered distinct. The tubercles grow
and in hairs in the same way, though coarse than usual in this spec. in Herb. 202, and the
scattered tubercles are by no means constant.
