Glabrous throughout, excepting a slight ciliation along
the margins of the leaves. 6-12' high. Previously found only in the
river bottoms of Oregon. Capitula more numerous. Then repens.
29. R. Andersonii, Gr. rar.
June 14, 1869. Pilot Rock Point, Salt Lake, Utah. 5,000 ft. 3 sp.
That plant more delicate or slender; stems 1' high, with (in one
specimen) a leaflet above the middle similar to the radical leaves; phylls
and achene somewhat smaller, & the latter less numerous crowded
in the heads.
30. R. Andersonii, Gr. (Proc. Am. Acad. Art. Sci. VII. 32.) At this remarkable species
was originally described from flowering specimens only, a full
description is here given, founded upon a large number of matured
specimens plants.
Scapus, glaber, radice fibrosa, foliis tripinnatis, segmentis trifidis,
laciniatiss, lacinias lanceolatae subcaulis; scapus aphyllis unifloris;
floribus pollicem diametro; sepalis latissimis glabris persistentibus;
petalis "saturate rosio" et ungue brevi angusto in laminam suborbicularin
basiforcea minima gaudentem dilatatis marcescenti-persistentibus; capitulis
maturis prae grandibus sphaeroides, carpellis pro genere maximis, inflatis,
adsubturan ventralem anguste oblis,
qlabrinimis, subcomprassis, Stheis, stylo minimo curvato apiculatis, animum
elongato, loviter curvato, supra basim subra ventralis affixo adscendente.
