W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail jerks of the head, somewhat similar to feeding peckes but not directed at any food. I attribute this to nervous- ness at my nearness. I identified Black ♀, 03 ♂, Dark Green ♂, the other ♂ being probably Red, 1715 ended observation. April 15. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0918 as I drove up by the pen in Behavior Lab, I noted 3 ♂♂ and 2 ♀♀ feeding in the west corner near gate (area A-1), prob- ably on Medicago in this area. The flew as the car went by to the north corner (E-1); the orange ♂ walked along the fence and into the tall Medicago patch at DE-1; the 03 ♂ walked along the fence, then back to a ♂ and ♀ unidentified in the corner. Rain was falling all this time a little heavier as orange ♂ went into the brush corner. 0934 Sun shine after rain, stripped at 0929, 6 birds in sight area E-1. Black and Yellow ♀♀ close together, then a pair very close (together) and two ♂♂ separated by a few feet. 03 ♂ and 05 ♀ emerged
