W.J. Francis 1964 California Quail. Oct.22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County feed and water at 1000; at 1015 one began to forage toward the center clearing + two or three others moved around near the brush pile in E-10. 1027 This activity quickly subsided, and all birds are now concealed in the brush. 1029 Two & and one foraging near brush pile in E-10, another perched in the brush. 1031 Quail ran back to the brush pile, no apparent disturbance. Ended observation. Oct.26. 0920 Count of 11 birds in the Behavior Lab pen. Birds first seen in Oper A-10 corner, then after ratting with brush in E-10 corner as they were disturbed by my presence in the pen. Oct.28. Light intermittent rain last night became moderate to heavy continuous rain this afternoon. Oct.31. Hunter Liggett Military Reservation, Monterey County. Checked hunters traps during the afternoon, this being opening day of the quail season. 98 hunters took
