W.J. Francis 1964. 89. California Quail Sept.7. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County - Tan to cover. Airplane noise overhead may be the disturbance this time - Sept. 11. Wildcat Canyon, Contra Costa County - 0920 A small covey of about 12 birds crossed the road from the Golf Course to a eucalyptus grove - many springs of widespread prison cake (Brass) in this spot. 1000 About 8 quail feeding in the "Little Farm" and in the bushes next to the creek. Three appeared to be nearly grown juveniles in company with a pair of adults, with possibly another pair with one juvenile in addition to these. Sept.14 Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County - 0840. Flushed birds in Behavior lab. pen while servicing instruments. Two juveniles identified, flushed separately from the main group. 0830 Observing birds from the hut - covey concentrated in E-10 brush pile. Noted 3 adult together. 0900 Ended observation, with birds leaving remained in E-10 corner the whole period -
