Feb. 14, Tilden Regional Park, Contra Costa County, Calif. 1030 Observed 3 7 8 and 5 9 9 feeding on grass within miniature train track enclosure at South Gate on Grizzly Peak Boulevard. When disturbed by driver returning to car adjacent to this area and by other passing cars, they retreated into brush covering about half the enclosed area. Feb. 14. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1124 Flushed 2 birds (1 8 1 prob. 8) about 30 feet inside eucalyptus grove next to brush patch of Baccharis just east of Grizzly Peak Blvd. Opposite the Animal Behavior Laboratory (Two birds seen crossing the road here about two hours earlier). 1150 Inside Behavior Lab, saw 1 8 and 1 9 cross the road from Bird Pen toward Grizzly Peak Blvd. In the next few minutes a quail was heard calling across the road. Baited a weedy flat area next to bird pen where quail appeared to have come from.
