W. J. Francis 1964. California Quail Aug. 6. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. Were crushed, Aug. 7. 0940 Flewbed birds from E-10 corner when I entered to service traps and hypothermograph. The birds all all remaining together in a close-knit covey now, best cant just 9 birds together with only 1 sure young. Other sighting appeared to have about 3 young birds. Aug 8. 0850. All birds in a bunch Together, apparently about 3 young ones. Eurate Lake Alpine: 0910 Saw 3 adults with 3 young (c. 4 weeks) Crossing road just south of Grizzly Peak. Aug. 12. 0852. All birds launched in E-10 corner of the Behavior Lab. pen. I could distinguish 3 young birds in the group. 0905 Several birds moving away from the corner along the SE fence, but returned within 4 minutes. 0915 Two young birds preening side by side in E-10, with a ? adult standing nearby; as the male moved away, the young also moved, out of right in the vegetation.
