W. J. Francis 1964. California Quail Aug. 5. Wildcat Canyon, Contra Costa County - 0900 Saw a somewhat scattered covey of 30-40 adults, with no young birds, at the "Little Farm" in Tilden Regional Park. Several drank at a seepage puddle, most were crossing the clearing, possibly returning from watering at the creek. Lon Teeta (sp?) working in this area repeated only 1/10 the number of young quail seen this year compared to last year - about 3 broods altogether seen by various people in this area. 0920. In the thick brush in the Canyon bottom, near the playing field and "Crater Grove" picnic area, heard a series of clucks such as adults call their young with, probably one brood in this area. However, I also sighted a feral cat with two half-grown kittens. No water in the creek at this point. No other birds seen or heard in driving along Wildcat Canyon Road. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1015 Flushed birds from E-10 corner while servicing traps. Five adults flew together, followed by a single ♀. Then another ♀ flew up the fence followed by 4 young, a
