July 30, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County,
in E-7 to see if it would recover.
1445 Found a young quail crumpled
in grass under a Bass Llauras in A-10,
did not move until touched, then ran
15-20 feet & returned to A-10 corner
1450. Checked injured young bird and
found it now standing up, but not
moving in the same location. Molt
of tail feathers was very evident in one
bird (Bashet) which flew when approached.
1506 Red 8 (alone) to center clearing,
eating grain. 1507 Green 8 came from
another part of the pen to join him.
1511 Both birds gradually fraged over to
D-4 eucalyptus and went into its cover.
All birds then remained hidden until
end of observation from the hut at 1525.
1945 Resumed Observations. Many
birds in central clearing as I approached,
ran quickly to cover.
July 31. Wildcat Canyon, Centro Costa Co.
0815 Saw a 8 with two chicks (4-5
weeks) along roadside. Nine other
adults with no chicks were feeding
in the vicinity. 0820 Near the
golf course a group of 4 adults
and ten chicks crossed the
