California Quail.
June 13. Strawberry Camp, Alameda County.
1445. Checked nests in the Belmain
holt pen. Founds lone incubating on
both nests, A5 and D-9, although
the eggs were cold two days ago.
July 26. Strawberry Camp, Alameda Co.
1125. About 5 adults, only 4 young, moving
along fence in C-10. 1130. One unaccom-
pained young bird ran across B-4 and A-4.
1143. 2 ? (4 Green, Red) 2 ?? (Yellow,
Green) to dust bath, followed by
Black ? with one chick; returned
to group in C-10 in less than 1
minute. A minimum of 7 quails
counted in this group. 1156 Two ??,
one ?, one chick, feeding in D-6. 1157
Another ? joined group, then another
pair - 2 identified Red, Black, & Green
1201. One pair left, 2 more chicks
joined group. 1203 A 4th chick
joined; then chicks ran off with
Yellow ?. 1208 I entered the pen
to check nest site & all 5
old birds flushed & flew together
while young birds were not seen.
