June 11. Strawberry Camp, Alameda Co. 0830. On approaching the Behavior Lab. Pen, saw 4 quail feeding together in A-1; then noted one perched on the instrument shelter. Checked the nests in A-5 and D-9 and found both unattended with the egg cold, apparently abandoned. Recent cold rains may have been sufficient to overcome the reduced breeding urge apparent this spring.
