1964
California Quail
May 6, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
he flew to the base of E-9 eucalyptus.
1925 Black-Green pair to center
clearing, Blade dust-bathed. 1928
Green in dust bath, where Black still
remained. Another pair emerged from
weed patch in D-8. Identified
Blue Q, 1931 Both pairs suddenly
flew under D-4 eucalyptus.
1932 A F came from the south
corner, followed by a Q. The F,
Orange, flew up to instrument
shelter; Q fell nearly out of
sight in back of it. 1935 - a
pair near fence in E-6, another
pair in E-3. 1939 φ5 Q joined
Green-Black pair in E-3, then
was joined by Orange + all fed
together; 3rd pair still in E-6.
1942, with all birds under cover,
ended observation; then entered
the pen. A F (presumably Red)
flew out from B-3; after a search
of the vicinity, the crippled Q,
must be Yellow, flushed from thick
glass when I came within a foot
or so. However, no nest in this
area, so apparently she is not
incubating.
