California's Quail
May 4. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
1055. A pair flushed in the Behavin Lab. perched along the fence in
A-1 as I approached and immediately after a loud 'clean assembly
Call was heard, apparently inside the
pen. 1110 While checking for nests,
flushed two pairs from tall grass
in A-10 - birds only moved when I
came within a yard. No signs of nesting
were discovered.
May 6. 1850 Quail in the Behavin half
pen did not flush when I entered to
scatter feed + fill water hole. 1905
Orange ♂ perched an instrument
Shelter, 2 other ♂♂ plus a pair feeding
in grass near the clearing. 1907
Orange gave a series of 7 assembly
calls, other birds out of sight.
1915' Blade ♂ and Green ♂ feeding in
E-3. another ♂ appeared, saw under
eucalyptus. Then Red ♂ appeared
from eucalyptus to center clearing;
1916. Orange ♂ left perch, as
Red ♂ called from perch on a
Cow weed in B-5, then disappeared
in the weeds. 1921 Orange ♂ again
perched an instrument Shelter, and
calling; in less than one minute
