Apr. 13. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
east corner. 1832. Bird calling out-
side the pen twice gave a single note
call, similar but not identical to
the "Cow" call. 1840. An unidentified
single ♂ exchanged squill calls twice
with a bird just outside the fence,
and seemed to attempt an attack
through the fence; meanwhile
Red ♂ and a ♀ foraged together
in E-3. 1844. A pair coming up from
D-10 another ♂ in grass in E-9. 1850
Red ♂ with Yellow ♀, another pair
and a ♂ with two ♀♀ in center
clearing. Two ♀♀ in dust bath, a
♂ chased me ♀ away after he drank
at the water hole. 1855 Birds in
the clearing are two pairs, 2 other
♂♂, and one ♀; another ♀ appeared
and birds are assorted loosely into
fair pairs. 1858. Birds still
feeding in my dim light as I
ended observations.
April 25. 1600. A pair in the dirt road
west of Behavior Lab., ran ♀ then
flew. In the pen, 2 or 3 birds
flew from about B-3 or B-4 as D
