California Quail
Feb. 18. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.,
1800 Trapped an immature ♀ without
a band inside the Behavin lab pen,
Wt. 173 gms. This bird is un-
identified + must have lost a
band, unless I have been mis-
counting all year! Placed her in
the cage inside the hut pending
further captures, banded #18463
Saw ♀ quail just outside the pen
which might have been two pairs,
or the foot of a covey in the road-
side brush.
Feb. 19. Returned ♀ 18463 to the pen
at 0850, having counted 16 other
birds in the pen—this must be one
which lost a band
1730 Captured adult ♀ Black
in the trap in the pen wt. 174 gms.
Placed in cage in the hut with
a little grain. Heard an
assembly call nearby, but
