Total banded this week so far: 19- Adults - 7♂ 1♀; 1mm.- 6♂ 5♀ Computed population: 12 × 11/4 = 33. Dec.28. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County 0745- 3 Quail in the trap between Bell house and the lawn; recapture #56630 1mm. ♀; new- #56687 Adult ♀ #56688 Adult ♂. For the first time there were quail and sparrows in the trap together. 0810. Shortly after releasing banded birds just outside the Davis house, a quail pursued by a large Cooper Hawk hit the fence around a garden plot, then flew into the bushes around the house with the hawk a few feet behind. I could not locate them in the bushes. Magpies kept up a chatter for about five minutes in adjoining pine trees.
