W.J. Francis 1963. California Quail Dec.1. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, 1658. Two & left, one & still by the trap. 1659. This & ran to dusting area and attempted to dust — no dust here, the soil being well settled by fall rains — 1705. Released the & in the trap + reset it. Other birds are apparently in their roost, although still moving about. Dec.2. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0820. Two birds in the traps in the Behavior lab. par. 1) Imm. & 56626, wt. 127 gms. Plumage nearly complete #7 primary 9/10 grown with sheath at base, #8 not yet shed. 2) Ad. & 56605. Dec.4. Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif. 0750. Saw a good-sized covey, rough count of 50 quail, feeding between the Bell and White houses, and also a & and & in front of the White house near the trap. Keith White reported having made a "good" count on Nov. 13 of this covey: 21 & and 28 &. 0900 Took the following quail in the trap near Bell house (not of covey flushed from weeds nearby). 1) Immature &, Vanded # 56633 2) Immature &, " 56635 3) Adult &, " 56636
