California Quail
Dec. 1. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
1632. Quail Commenced feeding around
the trap area. 1634. Counted 14 quail,
one & inside the trap. An immature
(June) & chased another June &.
Noted one unbanded &. All birds
feeding rapidly. The Microtus seemed
to be less shy when the quail are
about - 4 at once were feeding
with the covey of quail. 1638 Some
quail wandered off, only 7 near the
trap (plus one inside). 1640 Only
one & feeding near the perch, the others
foraging in E-3, or pecking under the
D-4 eucalyptus. 1644 Blue & and Orange
& came out for a few seconds separately,
the returned to shelter of eucalyptus.
1645. All birds have left the vicinity of
the trap. 1650. All sunlight is veed
gone from surrounding trees and
hills and quail are out of sight.
1651. Orange 20+ Blade & came out to
feed for a few seconds, then 3 more
quail from E-6. 1653. Now 10 quail
feeding near the trap. 1655. Only
1 & remains near the trap - he is
generally close to the & inside.
1656. Orange-29 & also feeding near trap.
1657 Unbanded & now near the trap -
