W.J.Francis 1963. California Quail Nov.21. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County- which had been motionless along the fence in E-9 began running back & forth in the same area. 1140 Movements ceased, only are 8" in sight at edge of brush in E-10 corner. Another series of 6 calls was not followed by any action. At 1145 I entered the pen + obtained an accurate count of 15 birds leaving the corner in E-10; none appeared to be weak or injured. Nov.24. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1500 all birds in the Behavior hab. pen appeared to be in the east corner (E-10), counted 13 running up the fence to the north corner, and 1 additional flew & ran as I approached the corner. Nov.25. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, 0950. Took the following birds in the trap: 1) Ad. ♀ yellow 2) Imm. ♂, Wt. 178gms. Banded #56634, + released outside. 3) Ad. ♀ 56605 4) Imm. ♂, Banded previously, not examined.
