California Quail
Nov. 20. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
0830 On entering 'The Behavior hole'.
per 9 disturbed quail which were
under brush in the E-10 corner, and
conuted 14 as they ran along the
fence. A few minutes later they
flew from A-78 to the N corner.
a single bird flew with difficulty
a short distance to the brush pile
in [illegible] B-8, perhaps the same
bird that appeared sick yesterday.
0922 Quail have remained almost
completely in cover up to this
time, with only a few birds at
at time seen moving occasionally
near the brush in E-10,
1615 Returned to check birds in
the per. This evening they were
in smaller groups (family groups?)
of 5, 4, and 4 birds respectively in
E-10, B-8, and A-8, plus 2 single
birds for a total of 15. No sign
that any birds had gone in the
trap, although the grainrant-
side was pretty well consumed.
