Nov. 6. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
Pen to service trap and rain gage. All
the grain in sight had been eaten.
0955 Several birds began moving out of
the E-10 cover along the SE force
line as a little sunshine broke
through. As they reached the vicinity
of the trap they fed vigorously on
the grain scattered around. 1000
Green & perched on top of the trap,
as 607 others ran off at the sound
of an approaching heavy truck out-
side the Behavior Lab, and workmen
talking as the highway just above the
pen. 1005 a & entered the trap, and
a moment later Green flew down from
the top. 1015 Truck & workmen whirred
by. Several birds visible huddled in E-10,
others under cover. 1022 Birds again
began to move out of the cover as
bright sunshine broke through. 1025 A
car passing slowly on the road inside
the Lab. did not affect the feeding of
6-7 birds near the trap. 1026. A
very young male (Aug. brood) feeding
alone in A-9. 1029 Green & again on
top of the trap - suggests he is still
looking after his brood if young!
1045 Took the following birds
