W.J. Francis 1963. 253. California Quail Nov. 6. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Pen to service trap and rain gage. All the grain in sight had been eaten. 0955 Several birds began moving out of the E-10 cover along the SE force line as a little sunshine broke through. As they reached the vicinity of the trap they fed vigorously on the grain scattered around. 1000 Green & perched on top of the trap, as 607 others ran off at the sound of an approaching heavy truck out- side the Behavior Lab, and workmen talking as the highway just above the pen. 1005 a & entered the trap, and a moment later Green flew down from the top. 1015 Truck & workmen whirred by. Several birds visible huddled in E-10, others under cover. 1022 Birds again began to move out of the cover as bright sunshine broke through. 1025 A car passing slowly on the road inside the Lab. did not affect the feeding of 6-7 birds near the trap. 1026. A very young male (Aug. brood) feeding alone in A-9. 1029 Green & again on top of the trap - suggests he is still looking after his brood if young! 1045 Took the following birds
