W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail Oct. 11. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Immature ♂, wt. 177 gms, molt complete except for sheaths on a few breast feathers; banded light green; probably 2 Orange brood, judging by weight. Oct. 13. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1700 Noted 2 ♂ & 8 ♀ birds in the sweet trap in the Behavior Lab. per as I entered; pain in and around the trap was completely eaten, indicating that the birds are going in rather freely. Oct. 14. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County 0510. Took the following birds in the trap in the Behavior Lab. per : 1) Immature ♂ (Silver), wt. 139 gms. #56625 2) Adult ♂ (Yellow), wt. 171 gms., body molt complete, #9 primary 2/3 grown, #10 primary 1/3 grown, both sheathed. 3) Immature ♂ (Silver), wt. 115 gms.; all juvenile retrices, very ragged & some missing. #5 primary less than half grown. Banded #56626. Note similar molt stage to #56625, and great difference in body weight. 4) Immature ♂ (Silver) wet 130 gms. Banded Blue.
