W. J. Francis 1963 California Quail. Oct.2. Hastings Reservation, Monterey County During the morning noted covey in the grilly between office and barn; at the bridge just outside the entrance gate, and on both sides of the Greenfield road below the first bridge up from the entrance. 1150 On the road into the re- servation, I saw a Cooper Hawk fly across the road, from the creek to the hillside, carrying a large bird which I judged to be a full grown quail; the flight of the hawk was labored as if he were carrying a capacity load. oct.3. Hastings Reservation Monterey County. 0850 About 15 quail feeding around the Bell house, not distinguishable into age groups. These birds are staying away from the trap, which is surrounded by Magpies. 1755 A group of about 10 quail ran down the dirt road, apparently from their daytime roosting area in the grilly near the barn, and began feeding on the level ground near the White house. 1807. Counted 6 JZ and 349 in this group, with
