California Quail
Sept. 27. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
Green brood now in nearly complete
adult plumage, white edging below
throat not quite complete. Green
♂ joined this group, which consists
of 3 ♂ and 3 ♀. Two other
♂ also emerged, then saw
Orange ♂ in D.2 and several
other birds running into weeds as
a passer-by startled all birds.
1734. Most of the birds are congregated
in the east corner behind the large
Eucalyptus showing no inclination
to come into the open after being
disturbed; ended observation.
Sept. 30, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
0520 One immature of Silver brood
in the trap inside the pen, a ♂ by
the presence of black feathers under
the eye; weight 85gms. at age
7 weeks. Reset & baited trap. This
bird gave the "Psen" distress call
repeatedly while running about in
the cage, the only time I have
heard this yet.
