W.J.Francis 1963. California Quail Sept.15. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. ago may have been an error a one Green immature is not staying with the covey. Today noted the different broods remaining separate, and the adults without young attached to one or the other family group. A number of assochably calls appeared to be from outside, or from penned birds responding to outside calls. Sept.16. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1910 I entered to Behavior lab pen to check the rain gauge, and disturbed a number of quail which had already gone to roost in D-4 eucalyptus; 3 minutes before sunset, but quite dark due to overcast. Sept.17. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1730. Checked food & water in the Behavior Lab. pen: Pigeon Grains had been entirely consumed, including whole dried peas and whole corn kernels. About a small handful of New Chow remained in the other pan. Replenished both with 1/2 can each of respective grains, and filled water hole.
