W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail Sept.13. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. One of the Orange immatures has almost completed his molt, with full black throat, except for a slightly ragged appearance and an incomplete border on the lower edge. More birds fed at the pan of Pigeon Grains than did at the Hen Chow. (1041). The birds scattered into the edges of weedy cover. A bird noted flying down from B-7 eucalyptus may be in addition to the 15 counted. There was no evident grouping in families or pairs of the large birds; however, difficulty in identifying nearly grown immatures may have masked such a grouping. At any rate the appearance is that of a typical fall covey. 1055 Adult pair with 4 half-grown (Silver) chicks in B-9. Two imm. 87 (Orange) in E-8; 4 immatures of Green breed flown from N to S corner of the pen. Apparently in scattering the families do tend to remain together. 1102 Not a bird in sight, all having gradually drifted into cover. 1118 Silver family (pair + 4) foraging near water hole, two chicks drank, returned to cover in
