Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. and an imm. ♂ came into the area. 0838- Grant of 4 chicks with ♂, now in A-9; ♂ has moved off a little. 0850 An ad. ♂ in C-10 and D-10, no chicks in evidence; ad. ♂ motionless in C-10 another ♂ erect on weed clump in B-9. 0901 Orange ♂ flew up to perch in B-7 eucalyptus, with one large imm. ♂ on the ground nearby. 0904. ♂5-♀ with 4 chicks drank at water-hole, then foraged in center clearing with ♂30°, who did not drink. 0907 Blade ♂, without chicks, joined the Silver family in center clearing. 0909 Red ♂ joined the group for a moment, then retreated to D-8. 0911 Silver family and Blade ♂ retreated to B-9. 0913 Two large imm. ♂♂ feeding in center, Orange ♂ still on B-7 perch, one imm. drank; assembly calls heard outside. 0914. The other imm. ♂ drank, then both moved down to C-9. Green brood of at least 5 young and one ad. ♂ seen in E-10 along the fence. Yellow ♂ not accounted for. 0916 Orange ♂ flew down from perch, into B-9. It appears that the entire second brood of Blade ♂ has failed to survive - although there were 6 at age 1 week.
