W. J. Francis 1963 California Quail. March 23. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0925. One pair near gate in NW corner, groups of 6 along NW fence (may include the first pair). All retreated quickly into cover with no marked disturbance. Attitude very active, not quiescent as it was yesterday. March 24. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. Observations in Behavior Lab from 1630 to dusk. Several birds were con- gregated in the east (furthest) corner, rather quiescent, but with some movement and feeding. 3 ♀ and 2 ♂ feeding in a loose group along SE fence, a pair about 20 feet N of 8th bird (♂) not seen. - Blue ♀, another ♀, and 03 ♂ feeding on grain in B7-B8, other 5 birds together along SE fence. Grumping shifting as birds feeding near center of enclosure. When started (cause unknown) all 8 birds ran through deep grass to fence & along fence to E. corner- Orange ♂ and 05 ♀ patrolling fence together, then all birds disappeared from sight. Sunday afternoon cars and motorcycles along Grizzly Peak Road create a disturbance
