Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. after which yellow & resumed feeding for one minute, then remained motion- less with the other until a total of 12 minutes had elapsed, then all re- seemed feeding. 1615. Red O mounted Blue & as she squatted with wings partly spread, & copulated for about 10 seconds. All three birds then wandered back into thicker grass cover. March 22. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County, Calif. 0620 Heard assembly call from a distance, while observing in pen in Behavior Lab. 0710 Since quail in pen have shown no activity and it is an hour past sunrise I am entering pen to determine roosting places. Seven birds seen from vicinity of large Eucalyptus in E. corner- most first seen on ground; later the last (yellow & ) flew from this same tree. The seven remained together while running pan ace; after I returned to the Ovo. Hotel, saw 2 O together in the N corner, who flew to cover in tall grass on NE side, where others were last seen. Discontinued Ovo. at 0730.
