W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail Aug.26. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0940. Q Black with 3 or 4 downy chicks in A-4 and B-4, and 638 with 4 2-weeks chicks and 2 downy chicks, which ran down and joined Black Q. About 7 adult or nearly grown birds along the SE fence line. 0945 Q with one downy chick ran down fence line from A-3 toward S corner Aug.26. Carmel Valley, Monterey County, Calif. 1630 about 6 miles above Carmel Valley Postoffice, came up on a covey along the roadside of something over 20 quail all nearly a quite full grown and mostly adult plummage. One immature Q was noted with black throat mark- ing still lacking. 1800 at Hastings Reservation. Saw a group of 4 moving through the brush above the Bell house, including a nearly grown Q, and a group of 8 feeding near the road in front of the White house, all appearing full-grown. The group from the brush began spreading out into cut grass stubble, and I counted 16 at 1806 - all nearly a quite full-grown.
