W.J. Francis 1963. California Quail Aug.23. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1106 Took immature in trap, gross weight 232 gms, tare 113 , net. 119 gms. This was a young B with definite blade spot beneath the eye and a white line over the eye. Banded # 56614 and released. Aug.24. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0855. Took immature in trap outside Behavin hal pen. Gross weight 303 gms; tare 152 gms, net 151 gms. No male markings. Banded # 56615 and released. Heard several assembly calls soon after release, in the area where a covey of over 20 birds, mostly immature, were seen outside the pen when I was coming to the hut. A ♂ with 3 immatures in A-9 responded to the calls by running back & forth along the fence, and stopping to look out frequently - several other immatures joined this group, christy the Green family. 0911 A ♂ in guard position in D-8, a ♀ with chicks foraging in D-9. 0919. Group alongside 5w fence now 2 adult ♂, 2 imm ♂ and 2 imm. ♀ of Green Wood. 0924. Now 6 immatures - noted cheat -
