Aug. 18. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
its edge. 1006. Second chick drank, another
feeding in clearing with φ5♀ as
Black♀ emerged with chicks from
C-8 towards water hole. 1008
Orange♀ feeding with [illegible] and
Black♀ and about 10 chicks then
all drank at water hole - count of
11 chicks.
Aug. 19. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
0858 Pair with dumpy young (only 4 counted) around
the base of E-9 eucalyptus. 0911 This group
still feeding in sunny patch in back of the
eucalyptus. 0920 Black♀ with about
10 chicks came from E-9 to feed in D-6,
followed by φ5♀ with only 1 chick. φ5♀
then ran up to D-4 and joined 3 other
chicks - about 1 week size. Black♀ to
water with 11 chicks; φ5♀ approached
with 3 chicks together, a fourth may
be additional or one already counted.
0925 φ5♀ and 3 chicks ran under
D-4 eucalyptus, φ3♂ perched on the
instrument shelter. 0927 Silver Black♀
♀ and chicks foraging in B-5, φ5♀ and
3 chicks feeding slowly across the clear-
ing, ♀ dusted briefly 0932. Silver
family unit. ♂ and a 4th chick
drank at water hole. and ♀ chased
