Birds commencing to go into roost. Hen on nest in A-5. Aug. 15 Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 0940. As I approached the Behavior lab. pen, several birds flew from A-5 and A-6 to the South corner. A family of 1 & and 10 immatures flew to the top of the pen outside, and walked along the SE fence line. Several assembly calls heard. 0945 A quail flew across the pen showing the fork-tailed appearance due to molt of central rectrices - seemed to be an immature. 0950 Black & came from cover in the north part of the pen, and took several drinks at the water hole. I entered the pen to check the nest in A-5, and found it as before with 11 eggs.
