Aug. 12. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
for a full minute before nearing m.
1027 (Recount of 9 or possibly 10 chicks
as this family (I will call them
"Silver") crossed back to weeds in
C-8. 1038. One Silver chick, while
the other remained in weed cover with
♀, wandered into C-5, this side of
the water hole, while ♀3♂ took
guard posture on a rock by the
water hole. 1041. This chick now
into area B-5. 1044. Chick returned
near water-hole, & both moved off
in direction of the rest of the family.
1052 Silver family feeding in vicinity
of water hole, then retreated under B-7
eucalyptus. 1100. Black (by
elimination) ♀ still on nest in A-5.
Aug.13. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
1544. Heard assembly calls outside the pen
at the Behavin Lab. 1548 A♂ and
downy chicks in A-9. This male has
two distinct planes. 1554 as a ♀
approached from A-6, both chicks
and ♂ moved toward her, then followed
her into B-10. 1556 A♂ and two
immatures (Green brood by size) seen
along fence in B-10. Pair with dummy
chicks crossed C-10 into D-10.
