W.J. Francis 1963. California Quail Aug. 9. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Count possible because of weedy cover. The two 3? were observed to be feeding close together - once shoulder to shoulder,- without showing antagonism. 1040 All birds have remained hidden in the weeds the last 20 minutes except one ? seen in south corner. The adult males today have been feeding along with the young birds with intervals of standing erect in the guard position but none have taken a high perch & acted as guardian for extended periods as has been noted in previous weeks. Aug. 10. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 1920 A number of birds maneuvering along the SE fence in E-10, including at least 1 adult ? and half a dozen or so immatures. 1930 Red ?, Green ?, and 3 immatures feeding in center clearing, then to dust bath with three other immatures in 'E-3. 1932 Total of 7 imm- matures at dust bath; the two ?? retreated to cover in E-4. 1934 Orange ? with two immatures at the edge of weeds in E-6; both the young (now 8 weeks old) show dulle ? washup around the throat
