California Quail
Aug. 9. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
Count possible because of weedy cover. The
two 3? were observed to be feeding close
together - once shoulder to shoulder,-
without showing antagonism. 1040 All
birds have remained hidden in the weeds
the last 20 minutes except one ? seen in
south corner. The adult males today
have been feeding along with the young
birds with intervals of standing erect
in the guard position but none have
taken a high perch & acted as guardian
for extended periods as has been noted
in previous weeks.
