California Quail
Aug.2, Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County,
0726. Latte pair came into center &
were identified as Red & Yellow,
all from A-5, both broods (2 and 8)
and Yellow & in the open at once
for a moment. Blade & presumably
on the nest, and #3 & unaccounted for.
0743 Red-Yellow pair again came into
center to feed with Green and
Orange still on same perches.
0746 Entered pen to check nest -
& incubating in A-5.
Aug.5. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
1200 New or useful A-5. In reviewing instruments, noted several
feathers on the ground, including
3 semiges; indicates some
birds are molting.
Aug.7. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
0630 at Behavior Lab pen. Weather Clear,
station just above thick ST layer
covering bay and hills. Very light
wind, visibility unrestricted, no
sunshine yet visible. Both broods
and 2 adults seen as I approached
the pen. 0638 Heard a single "Caw!"
call. 0643 A & walking on top of the
pen over and near the observation hut.
