Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co., Calif.
March 18. 1430. One ♂ + one ♀ patrolling
SW fence (colors not seen). Two ♂
Dk Green and Al 05, flushed from
Eucalyptus in E. corner, a ♂ + ♀
also ran from this shrub (prob.
not same two formerly seen this
afternoon.) Found Blue ♀ dead
beneath same brush feathers mostly
missing from back of head; presumably
killed by flying into wire top of pear.
By 1500 birds pretty much in cover,
only 3 ♂ visible motionless in grass
near S. corner.
1820. Banded Yellow one immature
♀ in trap, ♀ released in pen.
Mar. 19. 0830.
Two ♂ in trap - banded :-
Imm. ♂ 56601 - Recapture.
Ad. ♂ 56610.
1540 - Two quail in trap :-
♂ #56684 - Recapture.
Imm. ♀ - Banded Blue.
Released Blue ♀ in pen at base of
eucalyptus, from being held in hand.
This bird did not fly, but remained
in cover.
1610 4 ♂♂ patrolling the fence
(together, all ♂♂ under cover).
