0640 a pair foraging in 19-10, the
♂ spending most time standing
crest in guard position; the Green
brood huddled together on the
ground nearby, with Green ♀
walking about in the vicinity. No
interaction, although birds were in
sight of each other, sometimes as
close as 4 feet. 0651 Orange ♂
perched on large instrument shelter
to give chipping calls. 0654 Another
♂ perched on B-7 eucalyptus also
calling, as a house cat walked
along outside the pen fence. The
Green brood are no longer in the same
spot where previously huddled having
apparently taken cover in response to
the ♂'s warning notes. 0659 Red
♂ walked into center from C-7, as
a ♀ and the Green brood crossed
into weeds nearby. 1900 The ♂ (pro-
sumed Green) on B-7 eucalyptus
flew down to ground 5 feet
[illegible] close to Red, sometimes almost
touching, without any interaction,
as the 8 5½-week chicks left
the weeds and also fed; then the
whole group moved off to the
east corner, as did the ♀ who
