Harting Reservation, Mariposa County. be the same group of birds seen earlier 1045 Join Bell reported seeing a covey of about 50, mostly immatures, at the bridge just outside the reservation gate. 1652. Saw a pair on the road at the upper ford - many clucks heard as they went back into the brush. 1705. Near the bridge where the covey was reported this morning I noted many tracks crossing the road in both directions, no quail up to 1757. 1900 No new tracks in the interior I was gone from this location. 1952 No quail seen a head since taking this boat. July 28. Strawberry Canyon, Stanislaus County. 1400 Female incubating 11 eggs in nest in A-5; one egg spotting is much paler than the others, with a purplish tinge. Noted several young with a male able to fly well. Observed until 1445, female did not return to the nest - is she in- cubating or did I happen to look at the time of deposition?.
