W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail July 26. Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co. grown young flushed and flew across the gully as Guiger saw another pair run forward the barn. 1823 Four birds flushed from the gully alongside the barn, appeared to be 2 pairs, prob- ably including a pair previously seen. 1934. Two 80', one & and 4 nearly grown young flew from in front of White house to nearby oaks, followed by 3 others, apparently adult. 1935 Another pair flew from same area to brushy hillside. 1937 A pair near gully, and an immature flew into brush near house. These birds refused to flush but remained in the group of oak trees when Guiger attempted to disturb them. 2005 A pair flushed from Carnothers & flew into oak tree in back of Davis house; the noise indicated possibly 1 or 2 more pairs. July 27, Hastings Reservation Monterey Co. 0625. Quail could be heard in a near the large oak where they went to roost last night. 0633 Many clucking and assembly calls and a series of "sgrill" calls as birds were heard flying near the oak. 0637 adult pair, re- Turned behind covering stubs.
