California Quail
July 26. Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co.
grown young flushed and flew across the
gully as Guiger saw another pair run
forward the barn. 1823 Four birds
flushed from the gully alongside the
barn, appeared to be 2 pairs, prob-
ably including a pair previously seen.
1934. Two 80', one & and 4 nearly
grown young flew from in front of
White house to nearby oaks, followed
by 3 others, apparently adult. 1935
Another pair flew from same area to
brushy hillside. 1937 A pair near
gully, and an immature flew
into brush near house. These
birds refused to flush but remained in
the group of oak trees when Guiger
attempted to disturb them. 2005 A
pair flushed from Carnothers & flew into
oak tree in back of Davis house; the
noise indicated possibly 1 or 2 more pairs.
