Singles ♂.
♀ with several immatures.
Adult pair with 12 nearly grown young.
♂ with 2 chicks 4 weeks old.
Summary of this census:
8 adults with 37 young.
10 adults without young.
No coveys seen.
July 25. Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co.
1705. Heard a ♂ giving repeated loud rapid assembly calls and at
1720 sighted him in an oak tree
west of the Davis house, when he
flew down into the gulley. The
quality of his call suggested an
immature ♂.
2025 Saw an adult pair in the
vicinity of the large Canothus in
the lower part of Quail Hollow. They
ran uphill behind the brush, giving
a few very low clucks, then in
less than a minute went back
down the hill, giving louder clucks
and chips; I would guess
calling a brood of young.
