1615 Saw a pair along the SE
fence, and an outside & flew
down from the top of the pen as
I filled the water hole.
July 19. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
0950 at behavior lab pen, a & in
A-9. 0955 & and 2 large chicks
nearby in A-8, feeding. 1000 a &
with at least 1 chick at edge of
weeds in C-9; 1002 & with several
chicks crossed from other side (D-8)
into E-7; about 6
small chicks were seen following
the &. A & pushed on top of
the pen (mittable) over B-8.
1005 Green & perched an instrument
shelter as chicks foraged nearby;
pair with 2 baby chicks in A-7.
1009 Green family all in cover, Orange
family in A-5, all feeding. 1019
Same gray, in A-4, checked colors as
Orange & and Black &. 1025 Green
& and & chicks (accurate count) feeding
busily in C-2 after crossing from D-4.
Juvenile plumage becoming well es-
tablished in these chicks over the back,
head & belly still downy. Primaries are
