July 14. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
a male in C-8, she flew down to
join him, a half grown chick also
flew to them, and the group, with
possibly another half-grown chick,
walked into grassy cover. None were
identified.
July 15. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
0930 Green 8 on top of instrument
shelter, then flew to ground where
he was followed by a number of
chicks D-5 to E-7. 0950 Green
8 perched on weed clump in E-6, while
3 or 4 chicks glimpsed grazing in weeds
nearby. at 0953 the group moved
at toward center clearing, followed
by about 6 (?) other chicks. 0959
Green 8 flew to perch near top of B-7
eucalyptus as chicks foraged below,
ignoring nearby water hole. 1006 Green
8 flew down to water hole as 4 chicks
came to drink, then flew back to perch
as 3 other chicks came out of the
weeds - I could count only 7, but
they are scattered so that probably
any part could be seen at once.
At 1010 three of these chicks flew
about 10 feet from C-6 back to
