June 28. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County.
cyclone fence. It appears possible
that the chicks, after going through
the cyclone fence, could clamber
up over the hardware cloth
barrier. This would account for the
sharp loss in the Orange Wood, too.
There does not appear to be any way
for the chicks to get back in.
1240. I attempted recover some
of the chickens outside up to this
time. One run to corner gate
and I squeezed half-way through the
½" chicken wire; I gave him a
boost the rest of the way. After
cutting thistle along fence to
clear the way, I caught one
chick & returned it to the pen
through the fence. At least
4 others, who seem lost -
appeared in holes, under leaves,
etc., before I could catch them or
even spot hiding places accurately.
1555 Green F with several small
chicks in D-2. Counted 11 chicks as
they ran down along NE fence.
