W.J. Francis 1963. California Quail June 26. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. Thoroughly this morning. Nothing further seen to 1655, when I entered the pen and searched area when the last 7 was seen. I flushed a bird and found a few certain feathers, but no nest. Ended observation at 1705. June 27. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1915. Heard Cw! call to west of Bulwark hole, and saw a 7 in the trail just outside the lab. fence. As the latter flew, noted that there were no retrices missing which would indicate beginning of molt. 1920 Two males seen in pen, in weedy cover. 1928. F at edge of weeds in C.S. 1954. After standing nearly motionless for 26 minutes, this male ran across to E-9 Eucalyptus and flew into it; ident. as Red. 2018 Orange F ran from E-9 up to D-4 and flew into Eucalyptus Here. 2033 No further activity, ended observation.
