flush although I was within a foot
of her, but let chicks away from
the fence. There were at least a dozen,
probably more. Later, flushed a
bird in E-10 next to the fence, why
when I came very close. No nests
could be found in a very careful
search of the NE half of the
pen, up to 1050.
1538 A pair with chicks visible
through weeds in C-10. 1604 A & ? visible
along fence in B-10 as the pair with
chicks were seen in C-9. 1610 Male
& at water-hole, then feeding in
center of pen very rapidly. He then
ran rather quickly behind E-9.
Eucalyptus to the East corner. 1615
Orange ? left weeds in E-6 and flew
up to perch on instrument shelter;
another ? visible in A-6. Orange
left perch at 1617. 1630 ? with chicks
in B-9. 1637. A ? appeared briefly
at the edge of weed patch in E-5. No
chicks have been seen in that area, so
I would suspect it to be Yellow ?;
yet if she is incubating a nest near
there, it is a masterpiece of conceal-
ment, since we searched there very
