W.J. Francis 1963 California Quail. June. 6. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. 2000. Red ♂ ran into center clearing a began feeding. A ♂ flew down from E-9 Eucalyptus fed on the edge of the clearing for one minute, than ran behind weeds in E-8. 2025. Single ♂ (probably Red) flew into E-9 Nest; squill calls were heard, and at 2027 he was on the ground again June 7. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1510. A ♂ flew from A-1 as I approached, and ♀ was in the nest in A-3. One crowing bird was heard outside to the west of the Behavior lab. 1530 Red ♂ came into center clearing to feed. 1536 dust-bathed. 1541 drank at water hole. Assembly calls heard outside at this time. Red ♂ then gave a series of assembly calls; series of assembly and squill calls heard outside. 1544 Red ♂ gave cow & assembly calls, then ran behind weeds in E-4. 1607 Cow call heard outside the pen nearby.
