W.J. France 1963. California Quail June 3. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. roadside weeds - Two & of yellow & feeding near water - torle & in trap. Weight with holding net 312.5 gms, tare of net 115 gms, net weight 197.5 gms. Evident breed patch, no eggs could be palpated. June 4. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 0800 Heard two birds giving "Cow." calls to the west of the behavior lab. 0830 While servicing instruments in the pen heard several series of "plits" in fall grass back of the instrument shelter, but no birds flushed. 0850 Green-Black pair at the water hole, then foraging along water course; & spent most of his time standing erect while & fed. 0857 & went into weeds near 3rd port from corner, area A-3, along fence. A search of this area revealed nest with 18 eggs, the & left the nest only when I came within 2 feet of her, then ran off quietly through the weeds. At 0930 rechecked & found & at the nest, and did not disturb her.
