W.N. Francis, 1963. California Quail - May28. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda County. 1929 Red & came into center clearing from area E-9. 1932 Green + Black colculated. Red again out of sight in cover. Green & then perched on small instrument shelter while Black & preened; + remained there til1945. 1947 Yellow-03 pair emerged from under eucalyptus in D-4, and single & raised his head in D-3, then ran down to center clearing. 1951 Black & flew into E-9 noot. 1954 Green & to roost; some lack + forth movement of birds from tree to grounds. 1959 Orange & emerged from grass in E-4, and chased Red & from base of eucalyptus, then after two minutes ran rapidly & to where the latter went into grass in E-6, + followed him in. June 3. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co. Evening observation at Behavior Lab, no calls heard when approaching. Green & running around the pen clearing no others in sight. With sun clear of the top of trees, saw two & feeding outside the pen - one chase occurred then both flew across road; two or more other birds also flew from
