May22. Strawberry Canyon Alameda County.
Cow! call was heard outside. A
male was then seen walking on
the netting on top of the pen.
At 1938 a pair came to dust
bath, and the outside bird came
to a paint directly overhead and
gave assembly & Cow calls -
a "squill" note also heard,
probably by same bird since
I inside continued dust
bathing. At 1941 lone male
began Cow-calling. Yellow-
Ø3 pair came to water-hole.
1950 Orange Ø perched on small
shelter, with no Ø near (other two
pairs in D-788 near Eucalyptus).
Is she returning to build, lay
or brood? 1957 Orange Ø, after
wandering with no Ø, went into
greens & weed patch in E-6. Red
Ø left his place in A-1 and
moved nearer to other birds
in center clearing to feed.
2000 Red Ø squatted in dust
bath for a moment but did not
dust. 2004 Birds starting in
to eucalyptus roost in E-9.
Leaving the pen at 2015, I heard
two intense exchanges of squill
calls from a pine tree which
